JWA has one of the most stringent aircraft access and noise programs in the U.S. and the world. Our state-of-the-art noise monitoring system enables us to manage and enforce our noise regulations for the 280,000+ total operations that occur each year at the Airport.

Quieter Jets on
the Horizon

The future of aircraft engines is here—and it’s helping JWA reduce its environmental impact. Airlines are beginning to take delivery of next generation aircraft, such as the Airbus A320neo (new engine option) and the Boeing 737 MAX. These new aircraft are designed to deliver exceptional performance and fuel, noise and emissions efficiencies as compared to traditional jet engines—a benefit for Orange County residents.

Energy Efficiencies
JWA utilizes energy efficient design and materials both in the Terminal and on the airfield. The Riley Terminal design includes vaulted ceilings, skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows to increase the use of natural light, reducing energy needs. We are transitioning to the use of LED lighting throughout the Riley Terminal and are using LED lighting on the airfield that meets FAA safety standards, reducing both maintenance and energy costs.

Committed to Sustainability

  • Guests with electric and hybrid vehicles now have access to 10 new charging stations in the Main Street Parking Lot, free of charge.
  • JWA provides electric preconditioned air units and power for commercial aircraft use in place of jet-fueled on-board Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), resulting in zero emissions from the aircraft engines while parked and plugged-in at terminal gates.
  • JWA recycles more than 75% of the waste generated from aircraft and from supporting facilities, and 90% of refuse from construction projects.
